Magnifier #5 in all of its glory. Jesus, help me, I was behind the camera and Bill pointed the breakout rod towards me (great minds think alike). Of course, I love danger and didn't mind; but, it was still a penultimate moment. The longest discharges were, in my humble estimation, over 10 feet, probably 15 feet. Bill hooked up a 5kVA pole pig to power this machine. Power was from the 'pole' in front of the house, I was wearing the wrong shoes to climb upon the roof so I couldn't help in the hook up. I'll know better the next visit. The very top was at least 7 feet, maybe 8 feet with that huge aluminum sphere on top of the toroid. All images were taken with my Mamiya RZ67 Pro II (unshielded).
Photos 1 & 2 - The equipment.
Photo 3 - Color film, 3 second exposure.
Photo 4, 5, 6 & 7 - Black & White film, 3 second exposures. In photos 5, 6 & 7, the discharge was directly aimed at camera but was hitting an aluminum ladder in photo #5.
These photos do not do justice to the live performance of this machine. Next time I'll be back a bit further (about 20 feet in this case) and will create a deeper critical depth of field.
